Many Kenyans have taken to social media to boycott the rapidly rising food prices. Thousands have taken to some of the popular social media sites to raise their concerns about food prices in the country using the hashtag #lowerfoodprices.

The motion has also caught the attention of many meme lords and comedians who have made rib-cracking content regarding the situation. One of the most liked posts on Lets Cook Kenyan meals, a famous platform; where Kenyans share recipes and posts about their love for food, associates the soaring food prices to the current political state. It concludes that food prices were stable during the jubilee era, but the case has been different after the Hand Shake.

Crazy Kennar, a famous young comedian and social media influencer, ridiculously compares the value of a thousand shilling note then and now. His post, which also featured the hashtag #lowerfoodprices, has gained much traction on Instagram, amassing nearly 800 comments in three hours.

Kenyans are famous for taking to social media to air their grievances. They are also notorious for attacking their enemies, including entire nations on Twitter through hashtags. Kenya has over 21 million internet users with a rapidly increasing internet penetration of over 40%. They can only hope that this hashtag will catch the government’s eye and prompt the concerned stakeholders to take action.
